Ingredients
  

  • 1 slice bread 30–45 g
  • 30 g cheddar or your chosen melting cheese
  • 5 g butter or olive oil approx. 1 tsp
  • Pinch salt & freshly ground black pepper
  • Optional: smoked paprika chili flakes, herbs (for garnish)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat air fryer to 180°C / 356°F (about 3 minutes).
  • Prep bread: Lightly butter both sides or just one side of the bread (5 g total). Place bread on a plate, butter-side down.
  • Top with cheese: Evenly layer 30 g grated or sliced cheese over the bread. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper; add optional spices if using.
  • Air fry: Place the toast in the preheated air fryer basket or on an air-fryer-safe tray. Cook at 180°C / 356°F for 3–5 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Optional finish: For a browned, blistered top, increase temperature to 200°C / 392°F for 20–60 seconds — watch carefully.
  • Check target melt temp: (optional) Insert an instant-read thermometer into the center of cheese — aim for ~60°C / 140°F.
  • Remove & rest: Use a spatula to remove the toast. Let it rest 30–60 seconds. Garnish with herbs or hot sauce if desired and serve immediately.
