- 4 slices sturdy bread sourdough or whole wheat
- 4 large eggs room temperature if possible
- 56 g 2 oz shredded cheddar cheese
- 14 g 1 tbsp butter, melted (for brushing outer sides)
- Salt & freshly cracked black pepper to taste
- Optional: 2 slices pre-cooked turkey bacon chopped
- Optional garnish: chopped chives or parsley
Preheat: Preheat the air fryer to 180°C / 356°F for 3 minutes.
Butter the bread: Lightly brush both outer faces of 4 bread slices with melted butter (14 g total across slices). Optionally pre-toast at 180°C / 356°F for 2–3 minutes for extra crispness.
Assemble: Place each slice (buttered-side down) on a flat surface. Sprinkle 14 g shredded cheddar on each slice leaving a small centre well. Add chopped turkey bacon if using. Crack one egg into the centre of each cheese-lined slice. Season with salt & pepper.
Air fry: Place 2 assembled toasts in the air fryer basket, single layer. Cook at 180°C / 356°F for 6–10 minutes depending on yolk preference (6 = very runny ~60°C/140°F; 8 = jammy ~63°C/145°F; 10 = fully set ~71°C/160°F).
Optional finish: For extra-crisp edges, add +1–2 minutes at 200°C / 392°F at the end — watch carefully.
Serve: Remove carefully, garnish with chives/parsley, slice, and serve immediately.
