Ingredients

  • 4 slices sturdy bread sourdough or country loaf
  • 4 large eggs room temp if possible
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted (or 2 tbsp olive oil)
  • 30 g shredded cheese optional
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: 2 slices pre-cooked turkey bacon chopped; ½ avocado, sliced; chopped chives for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat: Preheat your air fryer to 180°C / 356°F for 3 minutes.
  • Prepare bread wells: Use the back of a spoon to press a shallow well (≈1 cm) into the center of each bread slice.
  • Butter bread: Brush both outer faces lightly with melted butter (or oil).
  • Assemble: Place bread slices on a tray. Crack one egg into each well (or pour from a small bowl). Season with salt and pepper. Add ½ the cheese now if using.
  • Air fry: Place slices in basket single layer. Cook at 180°C / 356°F: 6–7 min for runny yolks (~60°C / 140°F), 8–9 min for jammy yolks (~63°C / 145°F), 10–12 min for fully set yolks (~71°C / 160°F). Add remaining cheese at minute 5–7 for melting.
  • Finish: For extra crisp, increase to 200°C / 392°F for 1–2 minutes at the end.
  • Serve: Remove carefully, garnish, and serve immediately.
